Coach Ferentz Speaks at North Iowa I-club Spring Banquet
The 2011 I-Club banquet circuit began on Monday night with an event at the famed Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The North Iowa I-Club hosted 450 Hawkeye faithful, and our coaches spoke from the very stage that Buddy Holly once performed on. The record crowd heard from women’s basketball Director of Operations Abby Emmert, Assistant Wrestling Coach Terry Brands, and our Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.
The first event of the I-Club season is always an exciting one, partially because it is our opportunity to hear some new material from preeminent I-Club banquet MC, the Voice of Iowa Football and Men’s Basketball, Gary Dolphin. He did not disappoint. Gary provides a lot of entertainment – as do our coaches. It’s never a dull moment when a Brands brother steps on the stage and true to form, Coach Terry Brands described himself in his remarks as, “a little off”. This prompted Gary to forego any prepared remarks and just work with the material he’d been given.
Kelly Rush, President of the North Iowa I-Club was excited with the record turnout and success of their event. “The coaches did a tremendous job, the Surf Ballroom is a classic venue with so much character, we hosted a record crowd and there was so much support for Iowa athletics at the event. It was a great night to be a Hawkeye!”
