I-Club Members Celebrate 45th Annual Golden Harvest

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Over 300 I-Club members and fans met in Iowa City for the 45th annual Golden Harvest event on July 30 to kick-off the upcoming University of Iowa athletic year.

The Golden Harvest program began with lunch and a four-person best-shot golf outing at the UI’s Finkbine Golf Course.  The evening concluded with a tailgate style dinner and program at the Iowa Memorial Union.  Gary Dolphin, the Hawkeye play-by-play announcer, emceed the evening program, and Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz was the featured speaker. 

Tom Robinson, current president of the National I-Club Board, and Gary Barta, University of Iowa Director of Athletics, presented the 2011 National I-Club awards.  The Hawk-of-the-Year award was presented to Bruce Rastetter of Ames while Bob Goodfellow of Iowa City was honored with the I-Club Volunteer-of-the-Year award.  The Carroll Area I-Club and Johnson County I-Club both received the I-Club-of-the-Year award and the Boone-Story County I-Club received the Special Commendation award. 

“The Golden Harvest event is an opportunity for us to thank these special supporters and volunteers and recognize their dedication to the Hawkeyes as we prepare for an exciting season of UI athletics.” said Matt Henderson, Executive Director of Development, Intercollegiate Athletics. “I-Club members help build enthusiasm while providing critical private support for Iowa Athletics.” 

I-Club members are Hawkeye fans who contribute $50 or more annually to UI intercollegiate athletic programs through the UI Foundation.  More than 10,000 friends and alumni of the University are I-Club members, representing nearly every county in Iowa and state in the nation.
