Hawkeye Coaches Welcomed by Full House in Tama
The Tama-Toledo Country Club was packed on Wednesday evening, May 25, with over 200 Hawk Fans anxious to hear from Football Coach Kirk Ferentz, Women’s Basketball Coach Lisa Bluder, Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach Kirk Speraw, and Danny Song from the wrestling staff. Other athletic staff members were also in attendance that night, including Associate Athletic Director Mark Jennings. Gary Dolphin, Voice of the Hawkeyes, led the evening program and as always kept the audience entertained.
Coaches touched on highlights from their 2010 seasons, including the increased crowds at Carver-Hawkeye Arena for our men’s and women’s basketball teams, along with their enthusiasm for the incoming recruiting classes. Coach Ferentz was quick to put the 2010 season in the past and focus on the excitement being spread by Hawkeye faithful for the 2011 season. All the coaches credited the great Hawk Fans for faithfully supporting Hawkeye Athletics, it makes a difference not only on the playing field, but also on the banquet circuit.
The highlight of the night was honoring long-time Hawk fan and I-Club Banquet volunteer Dave Hamilton with their Hawk of the Year award. Despite having surgery a few weeks ago, he wasn’t going to miss a banquet and drove from Marshalltown to attend.
