I-Club Spring Banquet Held in Ottumwa
Southeast Iowa I-Club’s tailgate-style Spring Banquet, including tailgate inspired foods, was held at the Tom Arnold Net Center in Ottumwa on Friday, May 20. The casual event offered a great opportunity for the 200 Hawk fans in attendance to interact and mingle with Coach McCaffery, football’s Lester Erb, and women’s basketball’s Jenni Fitzgerald along with Voice of the Hawkeyes Gary Dolphin, and other athletic staff.
The theme of the evening was quickly established – it was all about the recruits. Coach McCaffery is excited about the addition of his new players, noting that he’s brought in some size and great shooting to accompany some talented personnel already in place. Coach Fitzgerald noted that highly touted all America high schooler Sam Logic out of Wisconsin will bring instant offense to the hawkeye lineup. Jenni thinks Logic will quickly become an fan favorite, as she is extremely dynamic and makes everyone around her better. Along with new recruits, the coaches also reviewed the previous season and spoke about the schedule ahead. Football, and Coach Erb, look forward to the Nebraska rivalry, noting that the Huskers addition to the Big Ten is good for the conference.
In his seventh year as president of the Southeast Iowa I-Club, Kermit Knott could not have been more enthusiastic about the evening. SEI I-Club recruited a record 30 new I-Club members at the event. Buoyed by a great line-up of silent auction items, Knott was confident the chapter would be able to increase their annual contribution in support of our student-athletes.
